Breakdance gives you lean pages, but it cannot make up for a slow server. When we audit a slow Breakdance site, the host is one of the first things we check, because every other fix starts late if the server takes a second to respond. This guide explains what the best hosting for Breakdance looks like in 2026, compares six popular hosts on price and features, and shows you how to test any host yourself before you commit.
Prices below are the published prices at the time of writing in October 2026. Hosts change them often, so check before you buy.

What Breakdance actually needs from a server
Breakdance’s own server recommendations are modest:
- PHP 7.4 or newer, and PHP 8.1 or newer if you use Breakdance AI
- The mbstring, curl and zip PHP modules
- A dual-core CPU and at least 512 MB of RAM, more as you add plugins
- Brotli or Gzip compression on the server
- Server-side caching
Nearly every host meets the minimum. What separates a good host from a poor one is how fast it responds, how well it caches, and how it behaves when traffic rises. In practice we look for:
- PHP 8.2 or newer available in the control panel
- Full-page caching at the server or edge, not only a plugin
- A CDN included, or easy to add
- Staging sites so you can test changes, including Breakdance updates, safely
- Daily backups you can restore yourself
- A data centre close to your visitors
The three types of hosting
| Type | Typical monthly cost | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared hosting | $3 to $30 | Small brochure sites, tight budgets | Low intro prices that rise sharply on renewal, busy neighbours |
| Cloud VPS, managed | $11 to $50 | Freelancers and agencies hosting several sites | You choose server size and settings yourself |
| Managed WordPress | $25 to $60 for one site | Businesses that want speed and support without server work | Visit and storage limits, extra fees per site |
For a typical Breakdance business site, all three can work. The difference is how much you pay over three years, and how much of the server work you want to do yourself.

Which one we would choose
- One business site that must be fast: managed WordPress, such as Rocket.net or Kinsta.
- A freelancer or agency with 5 to 20 client sites: a managed cloud server such as Cloudways, sized to the traffic.
- A WooCommerce store: managed WordPress or a properly sized cloud server, never the cheapest shared plan. Carts and checkouts cannot be cached like normal pages.
- A small portfolio or brochure site on a tight budget: good shared hosting is fine, as long as you budget for the renewal price.
How to test a host yourself
Reviews and marketing pages can only tell you so much. A quick test on a real site tells you more.

- Build the same test site on each host. Import the same Breakdance template, with the same plugins and content. A BreakUI template is ideal for this, because the layout is identical everywhere.
- Turn on each host’s recommended caching. Test the setup a real client would get.
- Measure server response time. In PageSpeed Insights, check “Reduce initial server response time”, or use a tool that reports time to first byte. Under 200 ms on a cached page is good. Over 600 ms is a warning sign.
- Run PageSpeed Insights on mobile three times and use the middle score.
- Test from where your visitors are. A host in the US can look fast from the US and slow from Asia or Europe.
- Check the uncached pages too. Log in, or test the cart and checkout, because those pages always hit the server.
- Try the dashboard and support. Open a ticket with a simple question. How fast and how good is the answer?
Hosting mistakes that slow Breakdance sites
- Choosing on the intro price and being surprised by the renewal
- Using a data centre on the other side of the world from your customers
- Running an old PHP version because nobody changed the default
- Stacking three caching plugins on top of the host’s own caching
- Hosting a busy store on the smallest shared plan
- No staging site, so updates are tested on the live site
Once the host is right, the rest of the speed work is about images, fonts and scripts. Our Breakdance speed tips cover each one.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best hosting for Breakdance?
For a single business site, managed WordPress hosting with edge caching, such as Rocket.net or Kinsta, is the easiest way to get fast results. For several sites, a managed cloud server such as Cloudways usually costs less per site.
Does Breakdance need special hosting?
No. Breakdance asks for PHP 7.4 or newer, a few common PHP modules, compression and server-side caching. Any decent WordPress host can run it.
Is cheap shared hosting fine for Breakdance?
For a small brochure site, yes, if the host offers caching and a current PHP version. Compare the renewal price, not the intro price, and avoid shared plans for busy shops.
Can changing hosts improve my PageSpeed score?
Often, yes, if the current server is slow to respond. If your server is already fast, the bigger gains come from images, fonts and scripts.
