“How much will it cost?” is the first question every client asks, and most answers online are either a sales pitch or a range so wide it tells you nothing. This guide breaks down what a Breakdance website cost really consists of, for two routes: starting from a template and paying for a custom build.
The ranges below are typical market prices, not our price list. Every project is different, and we quote a fixed price once we know the scope.
The short answer
| Route | Typical first-year cost | Time to launch |
|---|---|---|
| Template, you build it | $180 to $450 | A few days |
| Template, a developer sets it up | $300 to $1,000 | 3 to 7 days |
| Custom build by a freelancer | $800 to $4,000 | 2 to 6 weeks |
| Custom build by an agency | $4,000 to $15,000 and up | 6 to 12 weeks |

Costs every Breakdance site has
Whichever route you take, these do not go away.
- Domain name: about $10 to $20 a year.
- Hosting: $5 to $30 a month for most small business sites. Cheap hosting is the most common cause of a slow site, so do not pick the lowest price.
- Breakdance: there is a free version. Pro is $99.99 a year for one site, or $199.99 a year for unlimited sites. If a developer builds your site, ask whether their licence covers it.
- Email, security and backups: often included with good hosting. Budget $0 to $10 a month.
Route 1: template
A template gives you a finished design. You replace the words, the pictures and the colours.
What you pay for
- The template: free to $30 for a BreakUI template, or $50 for every template we make.
- Breakdance Pro: $99.99 a year.
- Domain and hosting: roughly $70 to $320 a year.
That puts a do-it-yourself template site at around $180 to $450 for the first year. If you would rather not touch the builder, paying a developer to install the template, add your content and launch it usually adds a few hundred dollars.
What you get
- A professional layout from day one
- A launch in days, not weeks
- A site you can edit yourself
What you give up
- The structure is fixed. You adapt your content to the design, not the other way round.
- Other businesses can use the same template.
- Special features such as booking, member areas or complex filters are extra work.
Route 2: custom build
A custom build starts from your business, not from a layout. Someone plans the pages, designs them and builds them in Breakdance.
What moves the price
- Number of unique page designs. Ten pages that share one layout cost far less than ten different layouts.
- Design. Bringing a finished Figma file is cheaper than asking for design from scratch.
- Content. Writing copy and sourcing images takes real time. Projects stall here more than anywhere else.
- Features. WooCommerce, bookings, multilingual, memberships and custom post types each add days.
- Migration. Moving an existing site with rankings to protect is more careful work than a new build.
- Who builds it. A freelancer or small team costs less than an agency with account managers.
A five-page brochure site from a good freelancer commonly lands between $800 and $2,000. A larger site with a blog, custom post types and a shop is more often $2,500 to $4,000 or above. Agencies charge more because you are paying for strategy, design, copy and project management as well as the build.
Template vs custom: which one fits you?

Start with a template if:
- You are launching a new business and need to be online this month
- Your budget is under $1,000
- Your site is mostly information: who you are, what you do, how to contact you
- You are a freelancer building for a client with a small budget
Go custom if:
- Your brand has a defined look that a template cannot match
- The website is your main source of leads or sales
- You need features beyond pages and a contact form
- You are replacing a site that already ranks and earns
There is a sensible middle path as well. Start from a template and pay for a few hours of customisation: a new section, your brand styling, an extra page. For many small businesses this gives most of the result of a custom build at a fraction of the cost.
Costs people forget
- Maintenance. WordPress, Breakdance and plugins need updates. Either learn to do it or pay $30 to $100 a month for a care plan.
- Stock images and icons. Free sources exist, but premium photos add up.
- Paid plugins. Booking systems, advanced SEO tools and multilingual plugins have yearly licences.
- Your own time. Collecting content and giving feedback takes longer than anyone expects.
- Changes after launch. Agree up front what is included and what is billed.
How to keep the cost down without a worse site
- Write your content before the build starts.
- Decide on the pages and stick to the list.
- Reuse layouts. Service pages can share one template.
- Launch with what you need and add the rest later.
- Ask for a fixed quote with a written scope.
Is Breakdance cheaper than other builders?
For one site, the builder licence is a small part of the total, so the difference is minor. Where Breakdance saves money is in what it includes. Forms, popups, sliders and WooCommerce design are built in, so you buy fewer plugins. For anyone building several sites, the unlimited licence is a flat $199.99 a year. We compare the two most common options in Breakdance vs Elementor.
Frequently asked questions
Can I build a Breakdance website for free?
Almost. Breakdance has a free version and we have free templates, but you still need a domain and hosting. Our templates are built for Breakdance Pro.
How long does a Breakdance website take?
A template site can go live in a few days once the content is ready. A custom site usually takes two to six weeks. Waiting for content is the most common delay.
Do I pay for Breakdance every year?
Pro is a yearly licence. Breakdance states that your renewal price stays at what you first paid.
Should I hire a freelancer or an agency?
It depends on scope and how much management you want to do yourself. We cover this in hiring a Breakdance agency or freelancer.
